Vitamin C at low doses is known as an antioxidant; however, IV high dose vitamin C (25grams to 75grams) becomes a pro-oxidant. At these high doses it reacts with oxygen to make free radicals and hydrogen peroxide. Cancer cells do not have the same abilities to protect themselves against hydrogen peroxide as do our healthy cells . These molecules are toxic to cancer cells while leaving healthy cells unharmed. High dose vitamin C has been shown to inhibit tumor growth and metastasis by inhibiting the growth of new blood vessels these cancers cells need to grow and invade healthy tissues. It's use is also beneficial when used alongside chemotherapy as it can enhance the effects of chemotherapy as well as decrease its negative side effects.
High dose vitamin C enhances the immune system by improving white blood cells ability to fight infections – when the body is under great stress (emotional or physical), vitamin C is excessively excreted by the cells, so a greater intake of vitamin C is needed to maintain proper immune function.
Most organizations accept anywhere from 100mg to 1,000mg of vitamin C per day as a daily requirement via oral supplementation which doesn’t retain full potency after passing through the digestive system. Because our environment affects how much vitamin C is needed by a cell, IV can provide the best method of absorbency. For example, when a body is in an inflammatory state, it may need as much as 10x over normal daily levels. It is considered extremely safe and very effective when given IV!
